Dipl.-Ing. Nicole Vorhauer Receives Presentation Award

27.04.2015 -

At the ProcessNet food process engineering sections’s annual meeting from the 16 - 18 March 2015, Ms. Dipl.-Ing. Nicole Vorhauer received the section’s presentation award for her work on the topic “Basics of pore network drying model for application in food process engineering” on 18 March 2015. The work was selected by a jury consisting of representatives from industry and research, selected as part of the annual meeting, as it deals with a both scientifically challenging and industrially important and future-oriented topic. The award therefore also pays tribute to the excellent cooperation between the department and the Institut de Mécanique of the fluid de Toulouse’s research facility in France.

Ms. Vorhauer has been working on a bi-national doctorate as part of a Cotutelle de Thèse, funded by the DFH (German-French University) since 2010 (partner: Dr. Marc Prat, Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse).

So far, pore network models are applied in the area of the drying, primarily in the drying of inorganic materials. In her presentation Ms Vorhauer showed how pore network models can be applied in the drying of cellular biologic materials. Additionally, further interesting processes for food process engineering were discussed.

The food process engineering section specializes in process engineering and equipment in the area of food with the aim of process optimization, product formulation, and preservation, as well as measuring methods and energy investigations.
