Research Project to Determine the Effectiveness of Pressurized Air Fire Extinguishing Foam began on 1.8.2015

07.08.2015 -

Using about 1.7 million euros, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is funding the collaborative project AERIUS ("Alternative compressed air foam extinguishing agents – avoiding complex major incidents"; FKZ 13N13630 - 13N13633.).

Heat and mass transfer processes in extinguishing fires with compressed air foam, large-scale application in unusual fire scenarios such as high-voltage energy storage, fires under high-voltage equipment and plastics fires stand at the center of the investigations. Similarly, the environmental impact of the application of this extinguishing agent will be thoroughly investigated. Results will be used to establish practical aids for the training of firefighters in handling the compressed air foam.

Besides the Otto-von-Guericke-University, the Berlin Fire Department, the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), and the German Fire Protection Association are also network partners.

Reputable companies in the field of deflective Fire protection are participating as associative partners. The project is being coordinated by Prof. Ulrich Krause of the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering (FSVT).
