Sign up now: Internship for Secondary School Students “Process Engineering and Technical Cybernetics”

02.09.2015 -

The intership “Process Engineering and Technical Cybernetics” – organized by the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Systems Magdeburg and the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg - is a the place for those who are interested in biology, physics and chemistry. The internship provides tests and experiments, and gives an insight into the everyday work of scientists.

The internship is aimed at students age 16 and over in upper secondary school with a scientific focus and will provide an insight into the work world of engineering science.

The next internship takes place during fall break (19-23 October 2015). Signing up is possible from now until 23 September 2014.

Tests Offered

The following list is intended to provide an insight into the content and the framework of the internship. It contains only a portion of the more than twenty possible experiments and will be updated accordingly in before the the internship and sent to interested parties.

  • It’s not getting greener – microalgae as a food and energy source for the future
  • Treatment of animal cells and their application in the production of viral vaccines
  • Fuel Cells – preparation, measurements and applications (test for fuel cells is carried out in English)
  • Cybernetics for dynamic systems
  • autonomous vehicles built and controlled by you
  • Nanostructured systems in process engineering
  • ChemCar – How chemistry drives a vehicle
  • Computer analysis of metabolic networks
  • Fermentation of baker's yeast
  • Epidemic models – What do pathogens have to do with differential equations?
  • Conductivity and Concentration – What connects physics and chemistry
  • Knudsen diffusion for the separation of gas mixtures
  • Microsystems Technology – The chemical plant on the desk
  • Crystallization as the shaping method
  • Material separation by chromatography – Can one spin straw into gold afterall?

Presentation

  • Bioprocess engineering – Interface of Science and Engineering
  • Fuel Cells – Technology for the Future
  • Technical Cybernetics – What is that?
  • Nanoparticles – generation and use
  • Crystallization – process engineering for material separation
