Faculty Prize Awarded for the Best Doctoral Candidate

21.11.2016 -

Congratulations! Dr.-Ing. Hannes Mann received the faculty award for “Best Doctoral Candidate 2016”.

Dr.-Ing. Hannes Mann was awarded a prize for the faculty’s best dissertation at the 24th Academic Ceremony yesterday.

Born in 1988 in Berlin, he studied Process Engineering at the Otto von Guericke University starting in 2007 and completed his master’s degree “with distinction”.

He was employed as a research associate at the Chair of Mechanical Process Engineering from 2013 to 2015.

Under the guidance of his doctoral supervisor, Prof. Jürgen Tomas, who unfortunately died much too early last year, he became a very promising young researcher.

As part of his dissertation on the "Experimental Investigation, Modeling and Dynamic Simulation of Multilevel Turbulent Particle Cross-Flow Classification", which he completed with the overall distinction "summa cum laude", Dr. Mann investigated the multistage particle separation in a zig-zag classifier, an apparatus which is mainly used in cement processing and building material recycling.

In just 2 years and 4 months, Dr. Mann succeeded in producing an outstanding and comprehensive dissertation in a research area that had until now received relatively little attention. For his doctoral supervisor, the dissertation even represented "internationally pioneering work".
